Normalization Of Scores:

The IBPS Clerk cut off marks is based on the Normalization Process, which is explained in details below:

The corrected scores obtained by the entrants in different sessions are normalized by using the equi-percentile method hence, the normalization method is a very common method used in almost all bank exams to evaluate the performance of candidates based on several exam parameters, especially the difficulty level of the examination.

The exams conducted by the IBPS happens in various shifts in various centers in different cities across the country therefore, the sectional and overall level, as well as the topics, vary for each slot which may lead to a change in difficulty levels in the slots of the examination. So, evaluation should be fair, therefore IBPS normalizes the scores of the candidates in different shifts in the examination. So, using the normalization process the scores of the candidates are adjusted and justified.
In some shifts, if the difficulty level of the examination is very high then the percentile rank is obtained by the percentile rank formula given below. Therefore, after normalization of scores of each candidate the cut off marks are set and candidates are selected based on that.

Percentile rank of the candidate = {(Total students in a shift – Rank of candidate in that shift) / (Total students in a shift – 1)} * 100
