Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduation Level Exam (SSC CGL) is an exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission annually. The Commission was established in the year 1975. The main goal of SSC is to recruit employees for various ministries, departments, and offices under the Government of India. SSC CGL exam is conducted in IV tiers. Tier I and tier II are online and based on objective multiple-choice questions. tier III is an offline descriptive paper and tier IV contains data entry skills or computer proficiency tests along with document verification. Tier I and II are the two main phases of the SSC CGL Exam, however, applicants may have to appear for Tier III and Tier IV depending upon the post they have applied for. Before the 1st January 2016, SSC CGL Exam Pattern consisted of an Interview tier. After a government order pass, the interview tier no longer takes place. Now the exam only has four tiers. Let’s discuss the subject included in the four tiers of the SSC CGL exam:
Tier-I is a multiple-choice objective type, computer-based exam. This phase will have question-based on the 10th and 12th standard level syllabus.

Negative marking is applicable in the SSC CGL Tier-II exam. 0.25 is deducted for each wrong answer. No deduction is applicable to leave a question blank or unattended.

The Tier III of the SSC CGL Exam is conducted offline. It is a descriptive exam and candidates will be asked to write essays, letters, applications, and precis. This exam will be held either in English or Hindi language. The phase of the exam is to test the writing skills of the candidates. Candidates are suggested to follow the latest letter and application writing formats. Candidates are also suggested to read daily newspapers, articles, and magazines to get success in this phase of the exam.

Tier IV is the final part of the exam. It is based on data entry speed, computer proficiency, and data verification.
Candidates will need to type at the rate of 2000 words in 15 mins. Data entry speed is mainly tested for posts of Taxation (Central Excise & Income Tax).
The computer proficiency test consists of three modules, Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and Generation of Slides. This is the target skill set test for posts like:

The last and final step is to verify the documents of the candidates who have cleared all the tiers of the exam. They must have the following documents cleared for this examination. In the syllabus, there are different four tiers of the exam. Tier 1 and tier 2 will conduct in online and tier 3 is a descriptive type exam.
