Solution:
Lenticels are the small pores that occur on woody branches of trees. Lenticels participate in gaseous exchange and transpiration. The lenticels connect the atmospheric air with the cortical tissue of the stem through the intercellular spaces present amongst the complementary cells. The lenticular transpiration is only \(0.1 \%\) of the total transpiration. It, however, continues day and night because lenticels have no mechanism of closure. Lenticels get closed during winters by the formation of compactly arranged closing cells over the complementary cells in the case of temperate plants.
